Gong meditation has been around for thousands of years as a way of healing. It uses soothing and therapeutic sound and vibrations to give the mind something to focus on, keeping it occupied and gently guiding you into a state of deep meditation. Alpha frequencies, which are associated with creativity and feelings of relaxation, come first, and they are followed by Theta brainwaves, linked to deep meditation, and REM sleep.
Gong meditation is based on the understanding that our body's cells vibrate at different frequencies. Factors such as stress, depression and illness trigger non-optimal frequency changes in parts of our bodies, causing dis-harmony. When your body absorbs sound waves of the gong the vibrations restore harmony to the body, mind and spirit.
The workshop will begin with some gentle movement to clear space for the healing of the gong. The movement is appropriate for all levels. Then we will lie down to listen to the gong and end with a meditation designed to encourage a calm heart.
Requirements: Bring your own mat, blankets and a pillow.
